Which startup settings can I control on my S&Box server?

You can configure the same core values used by our egg runtime: GAME package, SERVER_NAME, MAP, TOKEN, optional SBOX_PROJECT (.sbproj path), SBOX_EXTRA_ARGS, SBOX_AUTO_UPDATE, and an optional SBOX_BRANCH for beta channels.

How are server updates handled?

By default, SBOX_AUTO_UPDATE=1 runs SteamCMD app_update at startup before launching the server. If you want stricter change control, set it to 0 and update manually during maintenance windows.

What specs do you recommend for S&Box servers?

S&Box on Source 2 benefits from high single-core CPU speed and fast storage. Start with 6 GB RAM for smaller communities, move to 8-12 GB when adding heavier content or larger player counts, and scale further as your project grows.

Can I run a custom .sbproj instead of the default game package?

Yes. Set SBOX_PROJECT to your .sbproj path and the runtime will launch that project directly. When SBOX_PROJECT is set, it takes priority over GAME and MAP values.

Can I change branches (for example staging) for testing?

Yes. Set SBOX_BRANCH to the branch name and startup updates will request that Steam beta branch. Leave it empty to follow the default public branch.
